Professional networking evolved because the basic personal social networking created identity crisis. What we are to our friends is quite different to what we are to everyone else! And this is what makes the friends special....

But then, within the friends circle, we have acquaintances, friends, best friends, best friends forever....... This is because, the kind of content that we share or feel comfortable sharing with, is different for different friend groups. Similarly, there is a friend group from the professional setup, for which the information is filtered to the most! This behavior is in sync with the etiquette, manners and one's perceived image at work place.

It has been observed that people are introduced by their achievements in a professional setup. This helps the listener to create an image and set up a reference for conversation with the person being introduced. This introduction further influences the respect, tone, choice of words, professional references, business opportunities .... practically how would the listener treat you! So, how much can you tell about yourself in those 2 minutes or three lines of introduction? This is when business cards come handy for sharing the contact details. But what about your achievements.... things that you have been working real hard for! Professional networking websites provides a solution to this.
